Stolen Glances
And she sat there, and he sat, as they slowly gazed at
each other through
quick glances and fluttery eyes and
As he moved, she moved
and it’s like they moved together
As one.
Mirrored movements were among them as
They were connected through some gravitational pull that
forced them together
Like magnets.
She slowly shifted her gaze onto the crowd
standing near her because
Distractions were what she craved, although he was the
Biggest distraction of them all.
He made her shake.
She could feel his piercing gaze linger upon her face and his
smoldering stare penetrate her thoughts.
Nervous, even, red in the face, flushed cheeks and
Chapped lips were sweeping across her
Glazed over eyes.
She wasn’t really paying attention to the music, no
She was paying attention to him.
And her eyes fatefully met his again and it’s as if
Time seemed to disappear.
Then he smiled that radiant smile
And fireworks exploded in her mind, and
She couldn’t remember her own name.
What was it again?
Her fingers slowly tapped the counter as her feet
Pressed hard up against the barstool like she was
clinging onto the moment,
And her toes curled around the leg of the chair as she
Felt sweat bubbles burst from beneath her skin.
Her hand crept slowly to her face to hold it up,
Because she felt weightless in his presence.
Her fingers covered her pursed lips and her nails
Were slowly sinking into her jaw line as the white knuckles
Appeared and her eyelashes were blinking quick and fast
Because this is what he did to her.
She could feel her knees become weak and
Her pulse pound beneath her veins. It’s as if her whole body was on fire.
She looked up at him above black lashes
And smiled with coy.
He uncrossed his legs and sat upright in his stool,
And as his hand curled up over his hair to brush it aside
She felt the butterflies in her stomach up rise.
It’s the way that he moved, she thought,
It could send her over the edge.
He took a sip of hot coffee
And watched the steam float up above the chairs and
Into the dust filled air as he
Leaned over the table and caught her glance in his.
Mysterious, he was, in the most sense,
She could never quite read his mind.
A closed book, he was, and she could feel the ache inside her chest as
She felt this overwhelming desire to rip through the pages
And discover the answers within.
He watched her go mad as he slowly
Grabbed her hand and traced his finger along her palm sending
Quick shivers down her spine.
He smiled wide at her and sent her a look that
Made moments seem like infinity.
The crowd was moving, dancing, floating about
And the lights got dim and the audience began to
Rise to their feet at the start of the first chord.
She didn’t even notice the roaring cheers from the
Thousands of people standing near her.
Touching her even, bounding into her as bodies were pressed
Tight up against her, making the closed space between them fill
The room infinitely.
Because all that mattered in the room was her and him and this
Destructive force between them.
And as his gaze lingered upon her swollen face,
And as her hands started to tremble in his as he
Held them ever so tightly.
He said “Darling, let’s get out of here.
